What are the odds that a sailing team gets invited to try a boat in Saint Maxime and one of the members of this team is our friend Giacomo Giulietti and that this boat is a Wauquiez 48 Pilot Saloon?
What are the odds that on the way back, still covered with salt and gloomily of being back on the ground, our friend from Sailing&Travel receives a call from 151 Miglia?
While chatting, we started to ask him a series of questions leaving room for the meddling of those who didn’t agree with his answers.
Here it is, the messy interview that will definitely make you smile
1. What are the 5 key things to bring on the boat?
Water, Nut … Nocciolata (hazelnut cream), Celadrin… Giulietti,you are such a chancer! – female voice from the background – jacket/smock and shoes but if I’m on a cruise I prefer a book.
2. How do you feel when you arrive at the port? And what’s the first thing you are looking for?
If it’s full, I get irritated. If it’s empty, I feel satisfied for being one of those few. If it’s after a very long trip, satisfaction for getting home, if it’s Sunday afternoon, sadness because the weekend is over.
The first things I need once we are at the port: trashcan, beer and wifi … the toilette! – the same female voice. Only urban woman are craving for the toilette, says Giulietti, men – just like maritime women – can take care of themselves using the edge of the boat.
3. What is your biggest fear when you are on the boat? Have you ever really get scared?
Someone who snores! – This girl knows everything!
Yes, and I agree on the threat of snoring. Then seasickness, losing the boat, watercrafts (damn!) and when the sea is dead calm.
Near the Elba Island, the wind blows over 45 knots with several meters high waves (from the board they seem bigger and bigger, we couldn’t see the island, but only the sea). I was 17 and I was with two friends, and with three poor girls who had never been on a boat before and wanted to go for a swim. There were storm alerts for two days: we left Marciana Marina and the squall got to us after a half hour navigation. We were experts, but still, I could only hope to arrive home safely. We navigated directly from Marciana up to Portoferraio, where the sea and the wind calmed down. The three girls jumped out of the boat before the mooring lines. Unlike the ropes, they didn’t stick around but they disappeared in the narrow streets of the village.
4. What is the strongest emotion you have ever had on the boat?
Joy for winning the World Cup in St. Tropez and happiness for reaching the port after the episode mentioned above.
5. Who is in charge for the galley? What cannot ever be missing? What is your specialty?
The owner’s wife! Chocolate, ham, anchovies, coffee, eggs, vegetables, fresh and dried fruit… I’m a master of tuna and tomato and tomato and tun…. tu tu tu tu tu tu tu.

What are the odds that at some point, thanks to the telephone companies, the call drops out and we cannot reconnect for a while, leaving the funniest questions hanging.
