Maxi Mediterranean Offshore Challenge: the 151 Miglia joins the IMA circuit
16-02-2017
The 151 Miglia 8th edition joins the circuit of the Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge, created by IMA (International Maxi Association), reserved to maxi yachts. It brings together the four offshore races considered “the most attractive” ones by Maxi owners. In 2017 in addition to the 151 Miglia – Cetilar Trophy, Giraglia Rolex Cup, Palermo – Monte Carlo and the Rolex Middle Sea Race are included. The winner of the circuit will be the maxi that will have competed in at least 3 of the 4 scheduled races, reaching the best result. The Prize Giving ceremony will take place in September during the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo.
It is an important recognition for the 151 Miglia whose result will help to point out the fastest maxi yacht of the Mediterranean Sea. The winner of the first edition – awarded in September 2016 – was the maxi “Rambler 88″ (USA), of George David with Brad Butterworth on board, an 88 feet high-tech boat designed by Argentine Juan Kouyoumdjian and built entirely of carbon. A real “monster” capable of making a name for itself at the Palermo-Montecarlo Regatta, at the Volcano Race, at the RORC 600 and at the Rolex Middle Sea Race.
“The IMA is pleased to include 151 Miglia in his racing schedule for 2017, and especially to welcome it in the circuit of the Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge”, says Andrew McIrvine, Secretary General of IMA during the press conference. For the “record-setting regatta”, taking full part in the group of the most prestigious offshore regattas of the Mediterranean Sea is a further confirmation.
